Farris was proud to attend the 2018 Corporate General Counsel Awards on June 11th at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. Farris Partners Al Hudec and Denise Nawata, hosted Avigilon’s Chief Legal Officer, Senior VP and Corporate Secretary Joel Schuster, his wife Dragana Milisic and Zafar Khan VP, Legal of Avigilon.
Joel was a finalist for ‘Canadian General Counsel of the Year’ for leading the transaction that saw Avigilon being acquired by Motorola Solutions, Inc. in March 2018 in a deal valued at approximately CAD$1.2 billion.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Monique Mercier, EVP, Corporate Affairs and Chief Legal and Governance Officer, Telus. In her 34 year career, there is little Monique has not accomplished. Under her leadership she has worked to protect and advance the interests of Telus, its customers and her community. In addition to successfully closing a number of commercial transactions impacting Telus, overseeing the development of Telus Garden, the company’s new corporate home, possibly Monique’s biggest challenge was leading a corporate governance battle against US Hedge fund Mason Capital with Farris leading the external litigation team. As a steadfast champion for excellence in corporate governance Monique described this as one of her prouder accomplishments. Under her leadership, she has also worked tirelessly to advance issues relating to women and diversity within the legal profession.
Farris congratulates clients, Joel and Monique, for their achievements and recognition at the 2018 Canadian General Counsel Awards.
