At the annual meeting of the Western Canada Commercial Arbitration Society (“WCCAS”) on November 13, 2020, Farris Partner, Ludmila Herbst, K.C., presented a case law update related to domestic (i.e., non-international) commercial arbitration. Cases over the past year have dealt with wide-ranging topics including the appointment of arbitrators, staying court proceedings in favour of arbitration, striking court proceedings commenced in face of an arbitration agreement, and the process, standard of review and remedies associated with challenges to arbitration awards. Ludmila is a member of WCCAS, frequently acts as arbitration counsel and is the co-author of Commercial Arbitration in Canada: A Guide to Domestic and International Arbitrations.
