In the “Legal Anecdotes and Miscellanea” column in the March 2022 issue of the Advocate, Ludmila Herbst, K.C., examines the lives of two Black lawyers. The first, Abraham Beverley Walker, the first Canadian-born Black lawyer, was nominated several times but never appointed Queen’s Counsel; he was recently awarded a posthumous Order of New Brunswick. The second, Delos Rogest Davis, K.C., was a Canadian lawyer (although born in the United States) and the first Black lawyer in the Commonwealth to be appointed King’s Counsel.
