National Day for Truth & Reconciliation provides an opportunity to recognize and commemorate the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools, and to honour the lost children as well as survivors, their families and communities. As part of the legal profession, we have a unique responsibility in the path forward and a privileged platform from which to act. As part of our commitment to this important work, we are taking steps both internally and externally to move forward on the path to reconciliation. In addition to engaging in educational seminars meant to heighten cultural awareness and educate us on our Indigenous history, we have been taking steps to support Indigenous businesses and organizations, and will be sharing today’s operational profits with the Indian Residential School Survivors’ Society. Reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility.
