Duncan is a cross-border lawyer with broad experience in corporate and securities law matters, mergers and acquisitions, commercial real estate transactions, international trade and other strategic matters of crucial importance to his clients. Duncan has advised on significant and high-profile matters across a broad range of industries, including financial services, technology, forestry, mining and commercial real estate (including REITs and listed real estate funds). A number of these transactions have been cited as “deals of the year” for innovation or significance in international markets.
Over the past sixteen years, he has advised on major international transactions originating from clients in more than 25 countries worldwide and more than 40 states in the United States. Duncan’s practice includes a significant number of Canadian and international M&A transactions, with a particular emphasis on cross-border U.S. matters and large commercial real estate portfolio acquisitions.
Duncan also advises the B.C. forest industry on the multi-billion dollar Canada-U.S. softwood lumber dispute.
Prior to returning home to Vancouver with his family and joining Farris, Duncan was Executive Director and Senior Counsel at Goldman Sachs International in London. Duncan also worked in Hong Kong in 2009-10 during a period of peak activity in Asian finance. Before joining Goldman Sachs, Duncan was an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, one of the world’s preeminent law firms, in New York and London.
