The Honourable Kenneth J. Smith is Senior Counsel at Farris. After 20 years on the Bench, and having first been appointed to the Supreme Court of British Columbia, Mr. Smith retired as a Justice of the Court of Appeal.
Prior to joining the Supreme Court in 1993, Mr. Smith had a distinguished career as counsel practicing in a wide variety of areas including commercial law, insolvency, mining law, medical negligence and other tort claims. He appeared as counsel in the Provincial Court of British Columbia, the Supreme Court of British Columbia, the British Columbia Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Smith has been a lecturer for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and the Trial Lawyers Association of British Columbia. He also taught trial advocacy for several years as an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia Law School.
The focus of Mr. Smith’s practice at Farris is alternative dispute resolution, arbitration and mediation. He does not appear in court but provides advice to Farris clients and lawyers.
