Al Hudec Discusses the Popularity of Indigenous Equity with Lexpert
Farris senior counsel Al Hudec was recently interviewed for Lexpert’s The Era of Indigenous Equity, published in the 2026 digital edition of Lexpert Finance & M&A. See a copy of the article here.
With 40 years of experience, Hudec was able to provide historical context on the evolution of Indigenous consultation and participation in project development. He highlights that Indigenous equity participation is playing an increasingly significant role in fast-tracking nation-building infrastructure projects in Canada. Equity participation goes beyond traditional benefits agreements, providing First Nations with an ongoing profit participation and a seat at the boardroom table, a role in governance and full information and voting rights in respect of important decisions.
Al is a member of a group within our firm (including Duncan Reid, Dan Everall and Kurtis Harms) experienced in structuring Indigenous equity in the pipeline, alternative energy and hospitality/tourism industries.
