Farris partner, Al Hudec, and associate, Megan O’Neill, are proud to have represented Wuikinuxv First Nation in its historic acquisition of forest tenures in the Great Bear Rainforest Timber Supply Area from Interfor Corporation. More than six years in the making, the acquisition triples the forest tenure held by the Wuikinuxv in the Rivers Inlet area where the Wuikinuxv have lived since time immemorial. Wuikinuxv’s forestry corporation, Kvamua, assumed controlling interest in managing forestry operations throughout the Territory. With 100,000 m3 of volume now under its control, Wuikinuxv has the ability to ensure harvest consistent with ecosystem-based management and responsible stewardship. Farris worked alongside Bram Rogachevsky of BR Law, lead counsel in the Wuikinuxv’s treaty negotiations with British Columbia and Canada. For a copy of the press release, click here.
