Farris to Host Wine Law Conference
Farris is pleased to announce that we will host the 2025 AIDV Wine Law Conference at our Vancouver office (with an online option) on Thursday, June 12. Bringing together leading voices in the wine industry, the conference offers programming for sector stakeholders, covering trends in trade, regulation, business and tourism outlooks, public health, and wine culture in both the Canadian and international contexts.
Highlights of this year’s conference include a presentation by Adam Beak, Head of BMO’s Wine & Spirits Division, who will speak to the findings of BMO’s second annual Wine Market Report released this month. The report includes a new section on the Canadian wine industry, noting that total wine sales in Canada fell by 5% to 53 million cases last year, with 60% of B.C. wineries performing below expectations. However, two-thirds of B.C. wineries expecting sales to increase by nearly 15% this year. David Hume, Deputy Minister and General Manager of the Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch and Erin McEwen, Assistant Deputy Minister and Chief Administrative Officer of the BC Liquor Distribution Branch, will present updates on recent regulatory developments impacting the sector. Farris Associate, Megan O’Neill, will Chair a panel discussion on internal and international barriers to wine trade, featuring Jeff Guignard, the newly appointed CEO of Wine Growers British Columbia.
